Similar to past build days, you’ll need proper footwear (sturdy, closed toe shoes like hiking boots or work boots), a reusable water bottle, and a sack lunch. We will have water jugs, First Aid kits, and sunscreen available for use. We have added some new safety protocols to accommodate safety during COVID-19. As a volunteer, you are at the heart of our mission, and we are taking your health and safety seriously. We are committed to providing the best, socially distanced experience possible. Please read the information below to see the steps we’re taking.

Fort Collins Habitat’s new protocols include:

  • Taking the temperature of our staff and volunteers upon arrival at the build site. Anyone running a fever (temperature above 100.4 degrees F) will not be permitted to build.

  • Limiting the number of volunteers on site to allow for as much social distancing as possible.

  • Requiring masks to be worn inside at all times and outside within 10 feet of another volunteer or staff member that does not live in the same household. You may bring your own mask or wear one provided by Habitat. *Please note- we understand that different organizations or individuals may have a stricter standards for wearing masks. If that is the case, please let us know and we will be happy to accommodate it.

  • Utilizing a fogger sanitizing machine to ensure that all tools are sanitized at the end of each build day.

What you can do on site:

  • Please stay home if you are feeling sick – running a fever (temperature higher than 100.4 degrees F), coughing, sneezing – showing symptoms of COIVD-19, or otherwise not feeling well. The best thing you can do for others when feeling ill is to stay home.

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with the hand washing stations on site while volunteering. Use alcohol-based wipes or hand sanitizer provided as needed.

  • Bring a mask to wear during your volunteer day (or use one of the masks provided by Habitat).

  • Refrain from sharing tools with other volunteers and staff members.

  • Keep your work area and every surface area you touch clean, and place used tools in their designated area so they can be sanitized at the end of the day.

  • Expect an “air high-five” from us rather than a handshake, hug, or even elbow bump.

  • Let your supervisor/volunteer-manager know immediately about anyone you are working with who is coughing, sneezing, or running a fever, or if you start to develop these symptoms while you are on site.

In addition to these measures, we are continuing to stay informed about our local COVID-19 situation in Larimer County and following regular updates from the World Health Organization, Center for Disease Control, and Habitat for Humanity International. If there are any changes between now and your build day, I will be in touch. Please contact me if you have any questions about these protocols- I am happy to help! Kip McCalla
